Ask Dobb is the closest thing to having me in the passenger seat with you. You bring the situation you’re actually stuck on — the specific kid, the specific slump, the thing no book chapter quite covers — and I answer. Not generic advice. Your kid, your question.

Here’s how it works. Paid subscribers drop questions in the comments of the monthly Ask Dobb thread (or reply straight to any email — those reach me too). I work through them and answer, sometimes right there, sometimes as a full post when a question is too good to keep to one person.

A few things worth knowing. No question is too small — “he won’t stop apologizing after every mistake” is exactly the kind of thing this is for. I keep names out of published answers unless you tell me otherwise. And if your question becomes a full essay, you made the whole publication better — that’s how a lot of the best posts start.
