July 2026 — Ask Dobb

You’ve had the question before. Maybe in the car. Maybe at 11 p.m. scrolling. Maybe standing at the kitchen counter after a game that didn’t go the way your kid wanted. The question that doesn’t fit neatly in a book chapter — because it’s about your kid. Specifically.

This is where you ask it.

Welcome to the first-ever Ask Dobb. Here’s the deal: once a month, I open a thread like this one, and you bring me whatever you’re stuck on. The kid who can’t shake off a mistake. The one suddenly dreading a sport they used to love. The tryout that’s three weeks out and already living in their stomach. You ask. I answer.

How it works: drop your question in the comments below. I read every one. Some I’ll answer right here in the thread — the ones that deserve room to breathe, I’ll turn into a full post, because if it’s on your mind, it’s on another parent’s mind too.

A few things up front. No question is too small — “she apologizes after every single mistake” is exactly the kind of thing this is for. I keep names out of anything I publish unless you tell me otherwise. And you’re not bothering me. This is the whole point.

Ask Dobb is a paid-subscriber feature — that’s who gets to drop questions and read the answers. Not in yet? [Join here] and bring your first one.

One more thing, since it’s July: Leadership for Student-Athletes lands July 23. If leadership is the thing you’re wrestling with — the kid who has it but hides it, or the one who wants it and can’t figure out how to reach for it — ask now. I’ll be answering with that book fresh on the brain.

The thread’s open. What’s your question?
